Therma-Ray Ceiling Panels

Frquently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. I can't use Therma-Ray Floor Warming because I already have my floors finished with linoleum tile. The floors are cold though, can you help me?

Yes. Therma-Ray ceiling panels can be used to warm the floor in cases such as these. Contact us for an evaluation and design recommendation. You can learn more about our underfloor heating system here.

2. Are the operating electric costs significantly more than other electric heat?

Actually, Therma-Ray radiant ceiling panels will consume about 1/3 - 1/2 less energy than conventional "hot air" systems. Radiant heat is a natural form of heat that the body reacts to directly. You're more comfortable at lower temperatures so less energy is used. On a spring day, the air temperature can be quite cool. But should the sun poke out from behind a cloud, you instantly feel warm. The sun is a radiant heater and heats you directly.

3. What percentage of homes in North America are heated using this form of energy (if a low percentage, why isn't it more popular since it sounds so great?)?

There has been a tremendous growth in the use of radiant heating over the past several years. A larger percentage of new houses are using radiant heat every year since it is far more comfortable. The percentage is still low overall because of huge inventory of older homes using older heating technologies.

4. What is the cost per square foot for installation?

The cost depends on where you live and the type of home you are building. Milder climates need less heat than colder climates. We provide quotes customized for you. Suffice it to say, you will be pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive our systems are compared to others - and that doesn't even take into consideration the superb comfort you will have. Due to energy savings, in a few short years the system pays for itself.

5. Can I heat my entire home this way?

Yes. Most homeowners want to be comfortable throughout their home although the choice is yours how you want to heat your home. We can heat a whole home or building or just individual rooms, our quotes are based on room-by-room analysis. We'll even estimate what it will cost you to operate Therma-Ray per year.

6. Where should the Architectural Series be used?

These panels are ideal for use where there is high heat loss. For example, they are used in office towers where there is a lot of glass. They are installed in the ceiling next to the glass. They are great in hospitals because you can provide spot heating without blowing contaminants. They can also be used in home garages. These are just a few of the applications. A SmartRooms representative will be glad to recommend the best option for you.

7. What is the warranty?

Each product has a different warranty. You can dowload the details from our warranty page.

8. How many rooms can be connected to one thermostat?

That depends on your heat loss and local building codes. However, for ultimate comfort and energy efficiency, it is usually better to have each room as a separate climate zone.

9. My electrician has never seen these before. How hard are they to install?

All of our systems are very easy to install, our installation guides and videos make it simple. In addition your SmartRooms representatives are available to help.

10. How much does it cost to operate this system?

Fuel rates are different throughout North America, so providing a cost may be accurate in one area and not in another. Based on what our customers have told us, operating costs are competitive if not lower than other types of heating systems regardless of the fuel source. We do provide an estimate of your heating costs using Therma-Ray based on your home's design, local climate and local energy rates. Once you factor this in with the comfort offered, your choice will be easy.

11. As a general idea, what is the recommended rule of thumb for watts per square foot?

We don't recommend a rule of thumb. A more detailed explanation can be found on our blog page: Is Your System Properly Sized? (Part I) and Is Your System Properly Sized? Part II. The combination of your design and local climate makes your project unique. A SmartRooms representative is trained to design your system to your unique needs. Let us know where you are located and we'll have a representative contact you.
